Balochistan High Court Takes Strong Notice of Alleged Custodial Death of Young Man, Orders Detailed Report

Quetta (News Desk) — The Balochistan High Court has taken strong notice of the alleged custodial death of a young man, ordering authorities to submit a comprehensive report and appear before the court.
A constitutional petition (CP No. 444/2026) was heard by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Mullahkhail and Justice Muhammad Najamuddin Mengal.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Ghulam Farooq Mengal, stated that his son, Hafiz Israr Ahmed, a tailor by profession, was arrested by the Eagle Squad from the Qambrani area of Sariab Road on March 27, 2026.
The petitioner alleged that the family was initially assured by police that the detainee was under investigation and would be released soon. However, six days later, the Sariab Division Superintendent of Police informed the family that the detainee had allegedly committed suicide inside the lock-up at New Sariab police station.
When the family reached Bolan Medical College Hospital, doctors reportedly described the death as “unnatural,” further raising suspicions.
The petitioner further alleged lack of cooperation from police and concerned institutions, stating that repeated requests for CCTV footage, post-mortem details, and other legal procedures were not properly addressed. Even complaints to the Inspector General of Police, Balochistan reportedly did not yield action.
Taking serious notice of the matter, the court issued notices to all concerned parties and declared the petition admissible. The court directed the Advocate General’s office to submit a detailed report along with evidence regarding the incident.
The court also ordered the Sariab SP, SHO Kechi Beg, and SHO New Sariab police stations to appear in person and submit their reports. Additionally, the court instructed the inspection branch to obtain reports from the Sessions Judge Sariab and Judicial Magistrate-II Sariab.
The case has been adjourned until April 21, 2026, with the court emphasizing the need for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.
