Imran Khan Named Prime Accused in Foreign Funding Case as FIA Prepares 57-Page Charge Sheet

Islamabad: Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan has been declared the principal accused in the foreign funding case, as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has finalized a 57-page charge sheet expected to be submitted in court soon.
According to sources, the charge sheet names a total of 11 accused, with Imran Khan identified as the central figure in the case. It alleges that around 1,800 financial transactions were made into Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) accounts from various countries under the title “Naya Pakistan.”
The FIA has also nominated individuals including Tariq Shafi, Hamid Zaman, and others in the case, while three suspects—among them Arif Naqvi and Tariq Rahim Sheikh—have been declared absconders.
Investigators claim that approximately $2.1 million in alleged illegal funding was received, including funds sent by a company named “Wootton Cricket Limited.” According to the FIA, PTI had declared the company as owned by Arif Naqvi and registered in the Cayman Islands.
However, the charge sheet states that the company could not be verified as a registered entity, raising questions about its legitimacy.
The development comes as a special court had directed the FIA to submit the charge sheet, which is now ready for filing.
Meanwhile, the case was also heard in a banking court in Islamabad, where Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar presided over the proceedings. Special prosecutor Wasiq Malik and the investigating officer appeared before the court.
During the hearing, the judge inquired about the status of the charge sheet, to which the prosecutor responded that it had been completed and would be submitted shortly.
The court adjourned the hearing of the main case until April 21 and extended the interim bail of co-accused Siraj Ahmed and Faisal Qazi until the same date.
The FIA has registered the case under charges of money laundering and other related offenses, and further proceedings are expected after the submission of the charge sheet.
