JD Vance Says “Significant Progress” Made in US-Iran Talks

US Vice President JD Vance has said that recent negotiations with Iran have seen notable progress, describing the discussions as positive and constructive.
In an interview with international media, Vance stated that both sides made headway on several key issues. He noted that the talks may mark the first time such high-level engagement has taken place between the US and Iranian governments, possibly unprecedented in the history of Iran’s current leadership.
Referring to the potential second round of negotiations, Vance said that “the ball is now in Tehran’s court,” emphasizing that the next steps depend on Iran’s willingness to move forward.
He reiterated Washington’s firm stance that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, adding that all US “red lines” stem from this core principle.
Commenting on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Vance said the United States expects Iran to take steps to ensure the waterway remains open, given its critical importance for global energy supplies.
The remarks come after recent talks between the United States and Iran held in Islamabad ended without a final agreement, though diplomatic efforts continue.
