Iran Announces Mandatory Toll Fees for All Ships Passing Through Strait of Hormuz

Tehran: Iran has announced the introduction of a new control system requiring all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to pay mandatory toll fees, marking a significant development amid rising regional tensions.

Speaking to Russian media, Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee, stated that every ship passing through the vital waterway would be subject to the new charges under the revised regulatory framework. He emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring full control and effective management of the strategically important route in line with Iran’s national interests, while also expressing distrust toward the United States.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad Sadegh said efforts are underway to restore oil refining capacity damaged in recent attacks attributed to the United States and Israel. He noted that approximately 70 to 80 percent of the country’s refining capacity is expected to be restored within the next two months.

He further added that parts of the Lavan Refinery could resume operations within the next 10 days, raising hopes for a gradual recovery in oil production.

Experts warn that the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, and any new restrictions or financial measures imposed there could have far-reaching consequences for global energy markets and the wider economy.
