Case Registered Against SSP Fida Janwari’s In-Laws, Police Officers Over Defence Assault

KARACHI:A case has been registered against the mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law of SSP Fida Hussain Janwari, along with several police personnel, for allegedly assaulting a woman and her brother in Karachi’s Defence area.
Earlier, a relative of Korangi SSP Fida Janwari had lodged a case against the woman who was allegedly subjected to violence. In the newly registered case, the nominated accused woman can reportedly be seen in a video allegedly assaulting the victim and her brother with the assistance of police personnel.
The case was registered following an inquiry ordered by the Additional Inspector General of Karachi after footage of the incident surfaced. The DIG South reportedly recommended in his inquiry report that cases be registered against the SSP’s family members and the police officers allegedly involved.
According to the FIR registered at Darakhshan Police Station on the complaint of the victim, the incident took place at around 11:45pm on August 20, 2026. The complainant alleged that a police officer rang the bell of her residence and told her that “Madam Maryam” was calling her downstairs.
She alleged that Maryam later came upstairs while hurling abuses and began kicking the door. When the complainant opened the door, Maryam allegedly grabbed her by the hair and snatched her mobile phone before throwing it downstairs. When the complainant’s mother came outside, she was also allegedly grabbed by the hair and assaulted.
According to the FIR, Maryam returned downstairs and later came back with her daughter, accompanied by police officers. They allegedly attempted to snatch the family members’ mobile phones. After the complainant’s brother dropped his phone, Maryam allegedly picked it up, while Maryam’s daughter allegedly began hitting him with a dumbbell.
The complainant said she and her brother entered their flat to protect themselves and called emergency helpline 15 for assistance. Meanwhile, the police officers allegedly present outside the flat broke the security cameras installed near the door.
She further alleged that shortly afterward, personnel from Darakhshan Police Station attempted to break down the door. After entering the flat, they allegedly took the complainant’s and her brother’s mobile phones and took both of them to the police station.
It may be recalled that following the incident, Darakhshan police had registered a case against the affected family themselves and sent them to jail.
