Iran Rejects U.S. Terms as Nuclear Talks End Without Agreement: JD Vance

Islamabad:U.S. Vice President JD Vance has stated that Iran refused to accept American conditions, resulting in the failure to reach a final agreement in ongoing negotiations between the two sides.
Addressing a press briefing in Islamabad after talks with Iran, he expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying both played an “extraordinary role” in facilitating diplomatic efforts.
He said Pakistan helped reduce tensions between the United States and Iran and contributed positively to narrowing differences, though the final gaps in the negotiations were not due to Pakistan.
According to JD Vance, the discussions with Iran lasted around 21 hours and covered multiple issues. He said both sides participated in good faith and presented their respective positions.
He described the outcome as mixed, saying there was “good news” that serious discussions took place, but “bad news” that no agreement was reached.
“We came with a simple proposal and a clear understanding. This is our final and best offer,” he said, adding that the United States is now returning home without a deal.
He further stated that Iran did not provide a clear commitment regarding nuclear weapons, emphasizing that Washington requires firm assurances that Tehran will not pursue nuclear arms.
He added that while the U.S. had outlined its red lines and areas of possible flexibility, Iran was also informed about aspects that were non-negotiable.
