Pakistan Brokers Ceasefire as Trump Halts Iran Strikes

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Iran and the United States have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, following diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan.
The development came after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a halt to planned strikes on Iran, reportedly accepting Pakistan’s proposal for a two-week ceasefire.
In a statement shared on social media, the prime minister said he was “pleased to announce” that both countries, along with their allies, had agreed to an immediate cessation of hostilities across all locations, including Lebanon. He warmly welcomed the decision, thanking the leadership of both nations for what he described as a wise and constructive step.

Sharif further revealed that delegations from the United States and Iran have been invited to Islamabad on April 10 for talks aimed at reaching a final agreement to resolve outstanding issues. He expressed optimism that the “Islamabad talks” would pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
According to the U.S. president, the decision to pause military action was made after discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged restraint and de-escalation. Trump stated that the suspension of strikes would be conditional on Iran ensuring the immediate and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposed ceasefire is expected to last for two weeks, with both sides agreeing to avoid further escalation while diplomatic negotiations continue.
