Milk and Yogurt Prices Soar in Lahore, Citizens Forced to Pay Above Official Rates

Lahore – Following Karachi, milk and yogurt prices in Lahore have risen sharply, with vendors charging rates well above the government-mandated prices, causing concern among ordinary citizens.
Reports indicate that after record increases in petroleum product prices, the cost of daily food items has also surged beyond the reach of the common person. Officially, milk is priced at Rs170 per liter, but in the open market, it is being sold for Rs200 to Rs240 per liter. Similarly, yogurt prices have climbed to Rs260–280 per kilogram.
Residents have criticized the district administration for failing to enforce government price lists, allowing shopkeepers to charge arbitrarily.
Experts attribute the recent inflation surge in Pakistan to global tensions, particularly the ongoing disputes between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Fuel prices have reached record highs, with petroleum levies increasing the cost to Rs160 per liter, directly impacting low-income households. Cooking oil prices have also seen significant hikes, further burdening the poor.
Citizens are urging authorities to take immediate measures to control price gouging and ensure affordability of essential food items.
