LPG Price Hits Record Rs500 per Kg in Karachi Amid Supply Shortage

Karachi: The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has surged to a record Rs500 per kilogram in Karachi, significantly exceeding the official rate.

Consumers have complained that LPG is being sold at nearly Rs200 above the government-fixed price, adding to the financial burden on households.

Chairman of LPG Distributors, Abdul Hadi Khan, attributed the price hike to reduced supply and higher procurement costs for distributors. He also stated that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has failed to curb overpricing by importers.

The sharp increase comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a reduction of Rs80 per litre in petrol prices for the next month.

In his address to the nation, the prime minister also said that railway fares for economy class passengers would not be increased, and small farmers would receive financial support of Rs1,500 per acre.
