PTI Resignations Not New, Party Returned to Parliament in 2014 as Well: NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has recalled that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also resigned from Parliament in 2014, but those resignations were not accepted, and the party eventually returned to the House.
In an interview, Ayaz Sadiq expressed hope that PTI lawmakers would once again rejoin parliamentary committees, stressing that efforts were underway to ensure the party remained an active part of the legislature.
“PTI members had resigned in 2014 as well, but later they returned to Parliament. I hope they will rejoin the standing committees this time too,” he said.
The Speaker noted that requisitions for standing committee meetings were already being received and could not be halted under parliamentary rules. “Committees cannot be made dysfunctional under any circumstances,” he added.
Ayaz Sadiq further clarified that new chairpersons had not yet been appointed to the committees previously headed by PTI lawmakers, in the hope that they would resume their responsibilities. “It is the duty of PTI’s MNAs to fulfill their role as elected representatives,” he emphasized.
