Pakistan Shuts ‘Corridor System’ for Travel to Iran; Visa and Passport Now Mandatory

Quetta: The Pakistan administration has officially suspended the long-standing “corridor system” that allowed residents of border areas to travel to Iran without a passport or visa. The decision, announced by the Chagai District Administration, comes after a similar move by Gwadar authorities last month.
According to a notification issued from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chagai, the corridor system is suspended with immediate effect until further notice. Under the previous system, residents of border areas could cross into Iran without formal travel documents. Now, all travelers must possess a valid passport and Iranian visa for entry.
The suspension of this system has caused difficulties for local residents, who previously relied on the corridor for daily travel and trade. Authorities have clarified that no new corridor passes will be issued until further orders.
This measure affects border communities that have historically enjoyed special travel privileges, and it marks a major shift toward formal visa-based cross-border movement between Pakistan and Iran.
