US Defense Secretary Hegseth Says Talks with Iran Ongoing, Warns of Military Option if Needed

Washington: U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has said that the United States is continuing negotiations with Iran, expressing hope for a deal but warning that military force remains an option if talks fail.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, Hegseth stated that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict with Iran are ongoing and gaining momentum. He noted an increase in the number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, crediting former U.S. President Donald Trump for the development.
Hegseth urged the international community to step up its role, questioning the absence of the Royal Navy in the situation. He also said the U.S. is responding to actions by Russia and China in support of Iran.
The defense secretary added that while the U.S. has multiple options, Iran’s choices are limited, and claimed that only Donald Trump has the ability to bring the conflict to an end.
