Punjab Converting Waste Dumps into Green Forests and Solar Parks: CM Maryam Nawaz

Lahore (Qudrat Roznama) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that waste dumps across the province are being transformed into green forests and solar parks as part of an ambitious environmental initiative.
In her message on International Zero Waste Day, she urged citizens to reduce plastic usage and adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment. She emphasized that reducing waste, promoting recycling, and encouraging responsible consumption are essential for a cleaner and safer planet.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that under the “Suthra Punjab Program,” efforts are underway to make every city in the province zero waste. She noted that for the first time, Punjab’s waste management initiatives are receiving international recognition.
The Chief Minister said that waste accumulation contributes to climate change, environmental degradation, and loss of biodiversity. To tackle these challenges, the government is promoting a ban on plastic bags and introducing modern waste management systems, including electric vehicles and mechanized operations.
She also revealed that “waste-to-value” projects are being launched to convert garbage into energy and useful materials. Additionally, farmers are being provided subsidized “super seeders” to manage agricultural waste effectively.
Maryam Nawaz added that strict enforcement of environmental laws in factories and industries is being ensured for the first time, marking a significant step toward sustainable development in Punjab.
