Rukn al-Yamani: A Spiritually Significant Corner of the Holy Kaaba

Makkah: Rukn al-Yamani, one of the four corners of the Kaaba, holds deep spiritual significance for Muslim performing Tawaf.

Located on the side facing Yemen, Rukn al-Yamani is a key point passed by pilgrims as they move toward Hajar al-Aswad during the circumambulation of the Kaaba. Its importance is further emphasized through the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

According to Islamic traditions, Prophet Muhammad would touch both Hajar al-Aswad and Rukn al-Yamani with his blessed hands during Tawaf. Scholars state that if it is easily accessible, touching Rukn al-Yamani is considered a Sunnah. However, in crowded conditions, pilgrims are advised to continue their Tawaf without attempting to reach it.

Rukn al-Yamani is also believed to stand upon the original foundations of the Kaaba laid by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail, adding to its historical and spiritual value.

The area between Rukn al-Yamani and Hajar al-Aswad is regarded as especially blessed. It is reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would recite the following supplication in this space:

“Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
