Zamzam Well: A 5,000-Year-Old Water Source That Continues to Flow

Makkah: The historic Zamzam Well, regarded as one of the oldest continuously flowing water sources in the world, remains a focal point of religious and historical significance for millions of Muslims.

Located within the premises of Masjid al-Haram, approximately 20 to 21 meters from the Kaaba, the well is believed to be around 5,000 years old according to historical and religious traditions.

Despite being situated in a desert region, the Zamzam Well has never dried up and continues to provide a steady supply of water. Experts estimate that the well produces between 11 to 18.5 liters of water per second, an exceptional flow rate for a natural source.

Every year, millions of pilgrims visiting Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah drink from the well, while modern management systems ensure its continuous and safe supply.

The well is approximately 30 meters deep and consists of two geological layers—an upper alluvial layer and a lower rocky formation—which play a crucial role in maintaining its natural water flow.

Experts describe the Zamzam Well as not only a natural marvel but also a site of immense spiritual importance for Muslims worldwide.
