PSL 11 Kicks Off Without Fans; Maryam Nawaz and VIPs Allowed, PCB Announces Ticket Refunds

Lahore: The 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) officially began at Gaddafi Stadium, but for the first time in the tournament’s history, the opening match was played without the roar of passionate fans. Only VIPs were allowed inside the stadium, while the general public could watch the game via TV and online streaming.
The absence of fans led to a noticeably subdued atmosphere, and images of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz watching the match with full protocol sparked intense criticism on social media. Users expressed outrage over what they perceived as unequal treatment. One social media user wrote, “Fans aren’t allowed, but distinguished guests are—different rules for everyone.” Another, Tariq Wasim, commented that entry was restricted to protocol holders and government vehicle passengers, leaving regular fans excluded.
Some users expressed their disappointment, with one remarking that they would skip watching PSL entirely, blaming management for the state of Pakistani cricket. Others pointed out that the league, which was initially planned to span more than four cities, has been limited to just two, and without live spectators. Many criticized the decision to cite “budgetary constraints” as an excuse for barring fans while VIPs, sponsors, and officials enjoyed full access. Calls for allowing public entry continued to trend online.
In response to the situation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (Pakistan Cricket Board) announced a formal ticket refund policy for PSL 11. All online ticket purchasers will automatically receive refunds through their original payment methods, including debit/credit cards, JazzCash, or Easypaisa. The refund process is set to begin on March 30, 2026, and will be completed within 15 working days.
This unprecedented start to PSL 11 highlights growing tension between protocol privileges and fan access, raising questions about the league’s approach to inclusivity and public engagement.
