Pakistan Condemns Life Sentence of Kashmiri Leader Asiya Andrabi

Islamabad: Pakistan has strongly reacted to the life imprisonment of Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi, calling the verdict unjust and a reflection of ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government condemned and rejected the sentencing of Andrabi to life imprisonment, as well as the 30-year jail terms handed to her associates Fehmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen.
The statement said that the decision by a Delhi court under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act goes against the principles of justice and highlights persistent violations of fundamental rights in the region.
Pakistan described the ruling as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated cases aimed at silencing dissenting voices and intimidating those advocating for the legitimate rights of the Kashmiri people.
The Foreign Office further noted that the verdict raises serious concerns regarding due process, judicial independence, and compliance with international human rights standards.
It added that Andrabi has long been a prominent voice for the Kashmir cause, and her sentencing reflects efforts to curb political expression and civil liberties in the region.
Pakistan warned that such actions could further escalate tensions and undermine prospects for peace and stability in the region.
The statement also urged the international community, including the United Nations and global human rights organizations, to take immediate notice of the situation and hold India accountable for its actions.
Pakistan reiterated its unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
