Govt Providing Over Rs127 Petrol and Rs200 Diesel Subsidy, Says Musadik Malik

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik has said that the government, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is providing a subsidy of over Rs127 per liter on petrol and more than Rs200 per liter on diesel.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Malik acknowledged the challenging situation facing the country, adding that environmental risks in the region have also increased amid security concerns.

He stated that despite financial constraints, the government has refrained from further increasing petroleum prices to facilitate farmers and the general public. He added that significant cuts have been made in government expenditures as part of austerity measures.

The minister highlighted that several steps have been taken to reduce fuel consumption, including grounding government vehicles and imposing restrictions on official visits by federal ministers and advisors.

He further revealed that even the prime minister has canceled his official trips in light of the current situation, emphasizing the need to adopt austerity during difficult times.

Malik said the government is focused on providing relief to lower-income groups, while additional taxes have been imposed on fuel consumption for luxury vehicles, ensuring that the financial burden falls on wealthier segments rather than the poor.

He concluded by stressing the importance of collective efforts to steer the country through ongoing challenges.
