Nation Commemorates 13th Death Anniversary of PAF Hero Muhammad Mahmood Alam

Karachi: The 13th death anniversary of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) hero Muhammad Mahmood Alam is being observed today with deep respect and reverence across the country.

The nation is paying tribute to the brave pilot who etched his name in history during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 by achieving an extraordinary feat in aerial combat. During the battle over Sargodha, M.M. Alam shot down five Indian Hawker Hunter aircraft in less than a minute, including four within just 30 seconds—an achievement still regarded as a world record in air warfare history.

Flying an North American F-86 Sabre, he is credited with targeting a total of 11 enemy aircraft during the war, of which nine were destroyed and two were damaged. In recognition of his exceptional performance, 11 Indian flags were painted on his aircraft.

His remarkable success was driven not only by professional excellence but also by his deep patriotism and dedication to the country. In acknowledgment of his bravery, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Sitara-e-Jurat, the nation’s third-highest military honor.

M.M. Alam passed away on March 18, 2013, after a prolonged illness and was laid to rest at the martyrs’ graveyard at PAF Base Masroor in Karachi.

On his anniversary, various ceremonies are being held nationwide to honor his legacy as a national hero whose courage and achievements continue to inspire generations.
