KARACHI — Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister of Sindh, along with Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, formally inaugurated the Gul Plaza Market at Expo Centre Karachi to support traders affected by the Gul Plaza incident.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Zubair Motiwala, President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and head of the Businessmen Group, who warmly welcomed the guests. Salman Abdullah Murad, Deputy Mayor of Karachi, was also present at the event.

Speaking to the media, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that stalls have been established at the Expo Center through the joint efforts of the federal and Sindh governments to allow traders affected by the Gul Plaza tragedy to continue their businesses.

He expressed hope that the affected shopkeepers would be able to return to their restored shops by the time of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr.

Memon added that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has always been an icon for the business community and had also played a key role in assisting victims of the Timber Market incident.

He said the Sindh government has fully supported the Gul Plaza victims and remains committed to ensuring the safety of traders and citizens, despite negative propaganda against the government.

The senior minister also stated that street crime in Karachi has decreased and expressed confidence that the city would soon be counted among the successful cities of the region.

Responding to a question, Memon said political differences should not hinder cooperation and welcomed the newly appointed governor, adding that the provincial government would extend full support to him for the country’s progress.

Meanwhile, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said unnecessary security deployments are being withdrawn to improve the effectiveness of police deployment. He added that these steps are being taken to ensure better public safety and management during the holy month of Ramadan.

Addressing the ceremony, Zubair Motiwala said Faryal Talpur played an important role in supporting the Gul Plaza victims. He also confirmed that affected traders would be given their original spaces again in Gul Plaza.

Motiwala thanked the Sindh government and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan for waiving the charges of the Expo Center, which he said greatly helped the affected traders.
