Nihal Hashmi to Take Oath as 35th Governor of Sindh Today

KARACHI — Syed Nihal Hashmi will take oath today as the 35th Governor of Sindh during a ceremony scheduled for 4:00 pm at Governor House Karachi.
The oath will be administered by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court. After the ceremony, Hashmi will officially assume office as the province’s 35th governor.
Syed Nihal Hashmi, a well-known lawyer and politician from Karachi, is recognized among Pakistan’s prominent criminal and constitutional lawyers. He began practicing law in the late 1980s and later became actively involved in politics.
He served as a member of the Senate of Pakistan from March 2015 to February 2018. During his career, he also worked as an adviser on law, justice, and human rights to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from 1997 to 1999.
Hashmi played key legal roles in several high-profile cases, including those involving Nawaz Sharif at the National Accountability Bureau and the tribunal related to the murder case of Murtaza Bhutto.
He joined Pakistan Muslim League (N) in 1992 and remained active in party politics. He served as the party’s president in Karachi in 2012 and was later appointed general secretary of the party in Sindh in August 2014.
In 2015, he was elected senator on a seat allocated to Punjab through the platform of Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Known for highlighting the issues of Karachi, Hashmi is also regarded as an active social figure. The federal government led by Pakistan Muslim League (N) appointed him as the new governor of Sindh in recognition of his political services.
