T20 World Cup Sees Power-Hitting Records Shattered, 780 Sixes Hit in Tournament

The T20 World Cup witnessed unprecedented power-hitting, with a total of **780 sixes** hit across the tournament—**51% more** than the 517 sixes recorded in the 2024 edition. This surge has reignited the debate over the balance between bat and ball in the game.

During the tournament, teams surpassed the **200-run target 14 times**, highlighting the dominance of batting. In the final against New Zealand, India scored **255 runs**, setting new scoring benchmarks in T20 cricket. Out of all totals exceeding 250 runs during the tournament, the host team accounted for three such innings. The collective strike rate across the event reached **134**, marking the highest in T20 World Cup history.

Former England cricket team captain Michael Vaughan commented that while the batting was spectacular, the balance between bat and ball was clearly disrupted.

Meanwhile, Rob Walter, coach of New Zealand, said that if fans are enjoying this style of cricket, there is little to complain about, though maintaining competitive balance in the game remains important.
