Pashtunkhwa MAP Alleges Rs3.21 Billion Financial Irregularities in Quetta Metropolitan Corporation

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has alleged financial irregularities exceeding Rs3.21 billion in the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, calling for an immediate and transparent investigation into the matter.

In a press release issued by the party’s provincial secretariat, PkMAP described the revelations as deeply alarming and condemned what it termed large-scale corruption involving public funds. The party claimed that government funds and assets were allegedly transferred to private companies, while several payments were not deposited into official accounts and were made in violation of established rules and regulations.

The statement further questioned the silence of key accountability bodies, including the National Accountability Bureau and the Anti-Corruption Establishment, despite the emergence of an audit report highlighting these irregularities. The party argued that merely transferring the current administrator would not address the issue and demanded that all former administrators and chief officers involved during the relevant period be included in the investigation.

PkMAP also alleged that obstacles to holding local government elections in Quetta were partly linked to corruption and political interference, which it said prevented the establishment of effective municipal institutions in the city.

The party further criticized a public-private partnership arrangement under which more than Rs400 million and assets worth Rs2 billion were reportedly transferred to a private company for sanitation services. Despite this, the statement claimed that Quetta continues to face severe cleanliness issues and lacks an effective waste management system.

PkMAP warned that failure to take strict action against those responsible would amount to denying citizens their rights and urged authorities to immediately take notice of the alleged corruption scandal and ensure accountability.
