Kuwait Bans Toxic Skin-Whitening Creams from Pakistan Containing Mercury

Islamabad: Millions of people use beauty creams daily, but recent reports have revealed that some popular products contain toxic mercury, posing serious health risks. Mercury, commonly used in thermometers, has been found in several skin-care products marketed for whitening or fairness.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry laboratory tests found dangerous levels of mercury in the following products, leading to their immediate removal from the market:
Aneeza Gold Beauty Cream
Goree Beauty Cream
Goree Whitening Face Wash
Faiza Beauty Cream
Golden Pearl Beauty Cream
Jiaoli Cream
These creams are popular not only in Pakistan but across other Asian countries.
Health Risks:
Mercury applied to the skin can gradually enter the bloodstream, potentially causing:
Nervous system disorders
Damage to kidneys and other vital organs
Skin diseases
Headaches, fatigue, and other serious symptoms
Globally, countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines have imposed bans and issued alerts, as some creams contain mercury levels thousands of times above safe limits.
Consumer Advisory:
Authorities urge consumers to:
Stop using these products immediately and return them to stores if possible
Check home shelves for any of the listed creams
Use safe, certified products approved by authorities like the FDA
Avoid cheap, easily available creams, as they are more likely to contain harmful substances
Consumers experiencing symptoms after using these creams are advised to consult a doctor promptly.
