Ghost Employee Network Exposed in KP Police, No Major Action Taken Yet

PESHAWAR: Despite the exposure of a major ghost employee network within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, authorities have yet to take concrete action against those allegedly involved.

The scandal revealed that millions of rupees were withdrawn from the national exchequer in the name of fake salaries in Peshawar. However, no arrests have been made so far, no funds have been recovered, and no formal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.

Investigations uncovered that salaries were being issued to at least 30 non-existent personnel within Peshawar Police alone. These individuals were reportedly receiving monthly payments despite having no active service records.

A police spokesperson told Daily Jang that action on the inquiry is underway and investigations are continuing. He assured that those responsible would be punished and that the embezzled funds would be recovered and deposited back into the national treasury. “Investigations take time, but action in the case is ongoing,” he said.

According to findings, the network allegedly reused service codes of dismissed employees, forged official documents, opened fake bank accounts, and systematically exploited internal administrative systems to siphon off not just thousands but millions of rupees over several years.

However, reports suggest that the inquiry report has allegedly gone missing from the office of the Inspector General, hindering action against influential individuals possibly linked to the scheme.

The continued inaction has raised serious concerns about transparency and internal accountability, casting a shadow not only over the police department but also over the broader provincial governance system.

Official documents indicate that preliminary investigations began during 2023–24 in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar, where employees registered under DDO codes PR 8112 and PR 4093 were scrutinized. Despite drawing regular monthly salaries, several of these individuals reportedly had no legitimate affiliation with the police force.
