Dispute Erupts Over New PSL Franchise Sialkot Stallions Ahead of Season 11

Karachi: Controversy has surfaced surrounding the newly inducted Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Sialkot Stallions, with internal disputes coming to light even before the start of PSL Season 11.
Muhammad Shahid, who claims to be the legal owner of 76 percent shares in the franchise, has alleged that fellow stakeholder Hamza Majeed is attempting to sell additional shares without his consent. Shahid maintains that Majeed, who holds 24 percent shares, has no authority to sell any further stakes and warned of potential legal action.
In a video statement issued from Australia, businessman Muhammad Shahid said he has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL management about the situation. He accused Hamza Majeed of trying to sell shares belonging to his majority stake at inflated prices without authorization.
Shahid stated that he returned to Pakistan after 27 years with the intention of making significant investments and contributing to the country’s development, but claimed that the business dealings are not being handled transparently. He added that his legal team is closely reviewing the matter and that he reserves the right to initiate full legal proceedings if necessary.
The franchise rights of Sialkot Stallions were sold to OZ Developers for Rs1.85 billion (approximately $6.5 million) during a PCB auction held in Islamabad on January 8 this year. The team is set to participate in PSL Season 11, scheduled to run from March 23 to May 3, 2026.
Former Pakistan captain and legendary all-rounder Wasim Akram has been appointed as the franchise president, while former Test fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has been named bowling coach.
In the player auction, Sialkot Stallions secured Australian star Steve Smith for Rs140 million. The franchise retained Mohammad Nawaz for Rs61.6 million, Salman Mirza for Rs39.4 million, Ahmed Daniyal for Rs22.4 million, and Saad Masood for Rs8.4 million.
Sahibzada Farhan was acquired for Rs61.6 million, while overseas players Ashton Turner (Rs42 million), Peter Siddle (Rs25 million), and Tabraiz Shamsi (Rs22 million) were also signed. Additionally, Jehanzaib Sultan, Lahiru Thirimanne, and Dane Paterson were picked for Rs6 million each.
With legal tensions brewing, the dispute threatens to cast a shadow over the franchise’s preparations ahead of the highly anticipated PSL Season 11.
