Balochistan Police Facing Terrorism Alongside Routine Crime Challenges: CM Sarfraz Bugti

Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the provincial police are confronting not only routine social crimes but also serious challenges such as terrorism, emphasizing the urgent need to equip the force with professional skills, modern training, and advanced technology.

He made these remarks while chairing a high-level review meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat regarding the performance and capacity of the force following the merger of the Levies Force into the police. Officials from the Home Department briefed the meeting on progress made after the transition, challenges faced, and the roadmap ahead.

During the meeting, immediate and long-term plans were approved to modernize the police force in line with contemporary requirements. It was decided that 46 new Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) would be appointed across the province to strengthen supervision and administrative efficiency at district and sub-divisional levels.

The chief minister directed the immediate formation of a new police administrative structure at divisional and district levels and assured that all necessary resources would be provided to enhance the force’s capacity. He stressed that improving police performance is a top priority and that no negligence in protecting citizens’ lives and property would be tolerated.

Bugti also instructed authorities to implement effective reforms in administrative jurisdictions and powers following the integration of the Levies Force, ensuring better public service delivery and improved law and order. He called for the establishment of a robust monitoring system to regularly assess police performance across all districts.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat, Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, IG Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan, and Secretary Finance Lal Jan Jaffar, attended the meeting.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to completing the merger process effectively and further strengthening peace and stability in the province.
