Independence Day Preparations in Full Swing in Quetta as City Lights Up in National Colours
QUETTA: Preparations for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day have reached their peak in Quetta, with major roads, public buildings, markets and commercial centres being decorated and illuminated in green and white ahead of August 14.
Special preparations began in the provincial capital on August 9 and have intensified as Independence Day approaches. National flags, green-and-white buntings, banners, panaflexes, decorative lights and other ornaments are being installed at various locations across the city.
Major government buildings, including the Chief Minister’s House, Governor’s House, Red Zone, Pakistan Post Office, Balochistan High Court, State Bank of Pakistan and the Inspector General’s Office, have been illuminated with green and white lights. The buildings present a striking view at night, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Flag-Hoisting Ceremonies Planned
Various official ceremonies will be held in Quetta on August 14. Flag-hoisting ceremonies are scheduled at the Chief Minister’s House, Governor’s House and Balochistan Assembly, with senior government officials, political and social figures and other representatives expected to attend.
The ceremonies will include a salute to the national flag, the national anthem and special prayers for Pakistan’s security, stability, development and prosperity.
National flags have already been displayed on government buildings, while several key areas, including the Red Zone, have been decorated in the national colours.
Schools and Institutions to Hold Programmes
Apart from government ceremonies, public and private institutions, educational establishments, business organisations and social groups are also preparing programmes to mark Independence Day.
Schools and colleges are expected to organise national songs, speeches, tableaux and other cultural activities aimed at creating awareness among young people about Pakistan’s history, the struggle for independence and their national responsibilities.
Citizens Show Enthusiasm
The green-and-white illumination of major roads and government buildings has added to Quetta’s festive atmosphere, with citizens visiting different parts of the city to view the decorations. Children and young people are particularly enthusiastic about the celebrations.
Residents said Independence Day was an important occasion for every Pakistani and should be celebrated with national spirit and enthusiasm.
Authorities are also making arrangements to facilitate citizens and maintain security during the celebrations so that events can be held peacefully and people can participate in the festivities.
On the morning of August 14, national flags will be hoisted across Quetta and other parts of Balochistan, the national anthem will be played and special prayers will be offered for Pakistan’s safety, prosperity and stability.
