Homeless Man Driving $250,000 Ferrari in France Turns Out to Be Welfare Fraudster

Islamabad: French police were stunned when they stopped a person driving a red Ferrari Portofino at high speed in the Vaucluse region, only to discover that the driver was allegedly homeless, unemployed, and living on government welfare, despite operating a car worth approximately $250,000.
The man, dressed in seemingly fine clothes, told authorities that he had no job, assets, or other source of income. A brief investigation revealed that he had been relying on welfare payments for several years.
When questioned about the vehicle, he claimed it belonged to his mother. However, records showed that the Ferrari was registered under a real estate company, which he, his mother, and two siblings used. Further inquiries uncovered a complex scheme designed to evade taxes by hiding real estate income while continuing to receive government benefits.
The family reportedly lived a luxurious lifestyle, while officially appearing unemployed and bankrupt, allowing them to fraudulently collect government funds. Authorities estimate the fraud amounted to at least €1.8 million in social benefits, in addition to €1.6 million (approximately $1.9 million) in undeclared income.
The police have arrested the driver and his family members, and a case has been registered against them for welfare fraud and tax evasion.
