Breakthrough in Islamabad Imambargah Suicide Blast Investigation

Islamabad — Investigators have made a significant breakthrough in the probe into the suicide bombing at an Imambargah in Islamabad, police sources said on Friday.

According to officials, a raid was conducted at the residence of the suspected attacker in Peshawar, during which his two brothers and a woman were taken into custody for questioning. Investigators said an identity card recovered from the blast site helped establish the bomber’s identity as Yasir.

The identity card lists his permanent address as Abbas Colony, Shiro Jangi, Charsadda Road, Peshawar, while his current address is stated to be Ganj Mohalla Qaziyan, Peshawar.

Investigation authorities revealed that the suicide bomber had stayed in Afghanistan for about five months, where he allegedly received training in handling weapons and carrying out suicide attacks.

Police have launched search operations in Peshawar and Nowshera to trace the suspect’s possible network and facilitators. Officials said investigations are continuing from all angles, including an examination of the attacker’s contacts and support structure.

Police sources added that more crucial evidence is expected to emerge during the ongoing investigation, which is likely to further clarify the background and planning behind the terrorist attack in Islamabad.
