No Accountability in Pakistan, Action Should Be Taken If CM’s Name Is Linked to May 9 Events: KP Governor

Peshawar: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has said that every citizen of Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with the Kashmiri people and reiterated the demand for the implementation of United Nations resolutions on Kashmir.
Talking to the media after attending a Kashmir Solidarity Day rally, the governor said that unjust oppression is being inflicted on Kashmiris and that India has nothing to offer except cruelty against the people of Kashmir. He said that even the children of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stand firmly with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Faisal Karim Kundi said that two important meetings between the provincial and federal governments have taken place and that some progress has been made. He added that an upcoming meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister would focus on peace and prosperity. He also referred to a key meeting of the Apex Committee, saying that details would be shared by the Information Department through official news and photographs.
Commenting on accountability, the governor said that Pakistan’s tragedy is the absence of reward and punishment. He stated that if the Chief Minister’s name is linked to the events of May 9, the government should take action. He said that if evidence exists, courts are available to decide the matter. He added that he did not believe the question asked by a young girl was wrong, but it would have been better if details of the past 13 years had been clearly explained.
On cultural events, Faisal Karim Kundi said that people attend Basant festivals on their own and invitations are not required. He said that Punjab is celebrating Basant on February 8 and questioned against whom protests are being staged within the province. He stressed that similar public events should also be organized in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that shutting down shops and roads serves no purpose if prisoners cannot be freed.
The governor said that the proposed 28th constitutional amendment is not something that will be imposed suddenly, adding that amendments will be discussed once a draft is prepared. He announced that a festival would be organized after Eid to convey a positive message.
Referring to security issues, Faisal Karim Kundi said he had earlier stated that while the provincial government talks about negotiating with terrorists, dialogue should instead be held within government ranks. He welcomed the meeting with the Prime Minister and said that the federal government cannot absolve itself of responsibility in matters related to Tirah.
On the issue of wheat, the governor said he was unaware whether the Chief Minister had raised the matter, but if not, he would personally take it up with the Prime Minister.
