Federal Cabinet Committee Signals End to Dual Nationality for Bureaucrats and Judges

**Islamabad (Qudrat Daily):** The Federal Cabinet Committee has indicated that dual nationality for bureaucrats will be ended, with committee members also recommending that judges should not hold dual citizenship. A final decision is expected on the 16th of this month.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the Cabinet Secretariat, members voted in favor of ending dual nationality for civil servants. The session was chaired by Committee Chairman Abrar Ahmed. Members emphasized that if parliamentarians are barred from holding dual nationality, the same standard should apply to bureaucrats.
Committee member Noor Alam Khan strongly questioned why civil servants are allowed dual citizenship while parliamentarians are not, stating that he would not even sit with a sibling or daughter holding dual nationality. Minister of State Tahira Aurangzeb added that her daughter, an Australian national, had renounced her citizenship to enter parliament.
The Cabinet Secretary clarified that the government is ready to legislate if parliament decides to enact the change. The Establishment Division noted that while dual nationality is allowed in 21 countries, some individuals still acquire additional citizenships elsewhere.
In addition to the dual nationality discussion, the meeting also addressed Pakistan’s participation in the Gaza Board of Peace and the proposal to grant federal secretaries a travel allowance of Rs 90,000. Committee members emphasized the need for effective checks and balances in government policy and enforcement.
The committee confirmed that a final decision regarding the end of dual citizenship for bureaucrats and judges will be taken on the 16th of this month.
