Rana Sanaullah: Constitution Allows Room for Further Improvements to 18th Amendment

**Islamabad:** Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser Rana Sanaullah has stated that while the 18th Amendment was passed by consensus, the same consensus provides scope for further improvements. Speaking on a private TV program, he emphasized that the constitutional framework permits reforms, and serious discussion should be encouraged on this matter.
Commenting on the fire incident at Gul Plaza in Karachi, Rana Sanaullah called it unfortunate and stressed the need for a thorough investigation into who approved the additional floors and when the constructions were carried out. He added that accountability of those responsible is inevitable.
Regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had historically used meetings to challenge state institutions, which is why the Islamabad High Court established a formal procedure for such gatherings. He stressed that judicial clarification has removed any ambiguity in this regard.
On district governments, Rana Sanaullah highlighted that empowering local governments to address issues at the grassroots level is a constitutional requirement. Until powers are fully devolved to lower tiers, basic public problems cannot be effectively resolved.
Responding to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement, he remarked that every parliamentarian has the right to express personal opinions, and Asif’s comments reflected his personal view rather than party policy. He emphasized that personal opinions should remain personal.
