Opposition Rejects Pakistan’s Participation in Gaza Peace Board, Demands Public Disclosure of Agreement Terms

**Islamabad:** Opposition parties have strongly opposed Pakistan’s inclusion in the Gaza Peace Board, established by former U.S. President Donald Trump, and demanded that the agreement’s terms be made public and Parliament be fully consulted.

Addressing the National Assembly, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the government, saying it was foolish to expect peace while engaging with “killers” like Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. He condemned Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s consultations on peace with Netanyahu, emphasizing that global powers have undermined Pakistan’s traditional stance on Palestine.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman warned that the country faces internal unrest, with armed groups controlling several districts, extortion rampant in areas including Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan, and budget allocations allegedly supporting these groups. He demanded that Pakistan reject participation in the Peace Board under the leadership of Trump and Netanyahu.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar supported parliamentary oversight, stating that Pakistan’s participation must first be approved through a parliamentary resolution. He also questioned whether Pakistani forces would be used to disarm Hamas under the agreement.

Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry clarified that the Peace Board aims to rebuild Gaza under UN resolutions. He said Pakistan’s involvement reflects support for Muslim unity and that Parliament will be fully informed about the decision.

The National Assembly session was adjourned indefinitely amid ongoing debates over the issue.
