Islamabad High Court Rejects PTA’s Response in Imran Khan’s X Account Closure Case

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has deemed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)’s response unsatisfactory in the case regarding the closure of PTI founder Imran Khan’s X account.

During the hearing, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir presided over a petition filed by citizen Ghulam Murtaza, seeking the restoration of Imran Khan’s account. The court noted that responses from jail authorities, PTA, and other parties had been received, but the PTA’s submission did not adequately address the petition.

Lawyer Salman Akram Raja informed the court that he had not been allowed to meet Imran Khan for consultation regarding the case. The court remarked that final arguments will be heard on February 24, and requested a detailed written response from the Advocate General Islamabad regarding the contempt of court petition over the denied meeting.

The government’s lawyer argued that cases related to such meetings are handled by a larger bench, to which Justice Tahir responded that the case cannot progress without the meeting taking place. Salman Akram Raja emphasized that he has filed the case but has not been permitted to meet his client since the filing, citing a November 4 order that has not been implemented for over two months. The court assured that appropriate orders will be issued to allow the meeting, which is necessary for the case to proceed.

The Islamabad High Court adjourned the next hearing until February 24.
