Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Muneeb Question Administrative Failures in Gul Plaza Tragedy

Karachi: Prominent religious scholars Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman have raised serious questions over administrative failures following the tragic fire incident at Gul Plaza, calling for an impartial investigation to uncover the real causes of the disaster.
According to media reports, Mufti Taqi Usmani expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that the inability to control a major fire in a large city like Karachi is both regrettable and shameful. He questioned why timely rescue operations could not be carried out after the fire broke out and why emergency assistance was delayed.
Mufti Taqi Usmani said that within a few hours, precious human lives were lost helplessly, while several middle-class traders were rendered bankrupt after suffering losses worth billions of rupees. He stressed that an independent and unbiased inquiry into the tragedy is essential to determine the actual reasons behind the incident.
He emphasized that strengthening and effectively implementing safety arrangements is the government’s fundamental responsibility, while acknowledging that individuals who risked their lives to save others under difficult circumstances deserve appreciation. He also prayed for the deceased and for patience and strength for their families.
Meanwhile, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman also reacted strongly to the Gul Plaza tragedy, saying that recent claims made about the Sindh government’s performance were contradicted by the devastating fire incident. He remarked that the Gul Plaza fire has exposed the ground realities behind those claims.
Mufti Muneeb stated that, according to traders’ associations, the incident caused losses of at least Rs3 billion, dealing a severe economic blow. He questioned why a city with a population of around 30 million still lacks an effective firefighting system.
In his statement, Mufti Muneeb prayed for forgiveness for those who lost their lives, patience for the bereaved families, and better compensation and alternatives for those affected by the tragedy.
