Sindh Government to Provide Farmers with Subsidized Government Seeds, Plans Geo-Mapping of All Agricultural Land

Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to supply farmers with its own government-produced seeds at subsidized rates, moving away from purchasing seeds from the private sector.
The Sindh Seed Corporation (SSC) has also announced plans to conduct geo-mapping of all agricultural land in the province.
The decision came during a performance review meeting of the Sindh Seed Corporation, chaired by Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar. Secretary of Agriculture Muhammad Zaman Narijo, Additional Secretary Idris Khosa, MD SSC Abdul Fattah Helio, and other officials attended the meeting.
During the session, officials presented detailed performance reports of the corporation. It was revealed that wheat cultivation expanded by 352 acres compared to previous years, with a total of 2,242.85 acres sown. Income of PKR 12 million was generated from cotton, while rice (paddy) brought in PKR 16 million.
The MD briefed the meeting that 2,170 bags of wheat seeds were distributed to farmers at subsidized rates, 295 maunds of cotton were ginned, and additional income was generated from fish ponds.
Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar stated that two FIRs were registered against land grabbers, and 120 acres of illegally occupied land were recovered in Ghotki.
He instructed that the SSC should carry out geo-mapping of all agricultural land in the province. “The boundaries, area, and location of the land will be recorded in computers using GPS and maps,” he said, directing the MD to ensure that farmers are provided with standard government seeds at affordable prices through the SSC.
The Sindh Agriculture Minister added that these reforms have enabled the Sindh Seed Corporation to stand financially and administratively on its own feet.
