Shaban Moon Likely on January 21, 2026: Pakistan Meteorological Department

*Islamabad:* The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the first day of Shaban 1447 Hijri is likely to fall on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

According to the PMD, the new moon of Shaban will be born on January 19, 2026, at 12:52 am. However, there is no possibility of moon sighting anywhere in the country, including Karachi, on the evening of January 19.

The department explained that at sunset, the age of the moon will be between 17 and 18 hours, which is insufficient for visibility. For a possible sighting, the moon’s age generally needs to be more than 19 hours. At sunset, the moon’s age will be approximately 17 hours and 40 minutes.

The PMD further stated that after sunset, the moon will remain above the horizon for 32 to 33 minutes in Sindh, while in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it will remain visible for about 30 to 31 minutes. Despite clear or partly cloudy weather conditions, moon sighting will not be possible.

The Meteorological Department also clarified that there is no chance of moon sighting on the 29th of Rajab across the country. A detailed report in this regard has been forwarded to the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
