Afghanistan Has Become a Hub of Global Terrorism, Says DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry

Rawalpindi: Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Afghanistan has turned into a safe haven for terrorists from across the world, with multiple militant organizations operating from its soil.

Addressing a press conference, the DG ISPR stated that various terrorist groups are carrying out activities from Afghanistan, including Al-Qaeda, Daesh (ISIS), and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). He emphasized that Afghanistan is currently hosting a wide range of terrorist networks that pose a serious threat to regional and global security.

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that those ruling Afghanistan refer to themselves as an interim government, but in reality, there is no functioning government in the country. He recalled that in 2021, under the Doha Agreement, Afghan Taliban held negotiations with the United States as an international partner.

He noted that during the Doha talks, the Taliban had assured the international community that Afghan soil would not be used for terrorism and that women in Afghanistan would be granted their rights. However, he questioned whether any of the commitments made under the Doha Agreement had been fulfilled since 2021.

The DG ISPR raised concerns over the continued presence and activities of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and stressed the need for the international community to reassess the situation in light of the unfulfilled promises made in the Doha Agreement.
