Balochistan Government Clarifies Scope of Justice of the Peace Powers for Administrative Officers

Quetta (UNA): Additional Secretary Home Hamza Shafqat has said that the decision to grant Justice of the Peace powers to commissioners, deputy commissioners, and other administrative officers in Balochistan has been taken by the provincial government.
Speaking to the media, Hamza Shafqat clarified that these powers are strictly limited to forwarding public complaints to the police and issuing directions for the registration of FIRs. He emphasized that under this arrangement, no judicial proceedings will be conducted, no arrests will be made, and administrative officers will not directly interfere in investigations.
He further stated that the purpose of this decision is to provide the public with an easier and more transparent mechanism for the redressal of complaints. According to him, the move will not, in any way, affect the independence of the judiciary or the investigative process.
