NADRA Introduces Facial Recognition Facility to Resolve Fingerprint Verification Issues

Islamabad: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a major facilitation measure for citizens facing difficulties with fingerprint verification, particularly elderly people and those with medical conditions.
NADRA has launched a facial recognition–based biometric verification system, effectively addressing long-standing issues related to fingerprint authentication. According to a NADRA spokesperson, the initiative has been taken on the directives of the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister to enhance public convenience.
The spokesperson said that amendments have been made to the National Identity Card Rules to broaden the definition of biometrics. As part of these measures, biometric verification through facial recognition has also been enabled on the Pak-Identity mobile application.
Starting from January 20, all NADRA centers will begin issuing facial recognition–based biometric verification certificates. Citizens will be able to obtain this certificate, if required, by paying a nominal fee. In cases where fingerprint verification fails, individuals can visit their nearest NADRA Registration Center, where facial recognition verification will be completed and a certificate issued.
The certificate will include the holder’s photograph, CNIC number, name, father’s name, a unique tracking ID, and a QR code. It will remain valid for seven days.
The spokesperson added that NADRA is fully prepared to implement the system and has requested necessary cooperation from relevant public and private institutions. Any complaints regarding the non-availability of this facility after January 20 can be lodged with the concerned department or institution.
Following the issuance of Digital ID, this facility will also be made available through the Pak-ID mobile application.
