Karkhsa Recreational Park Will Remain Open, Stricter Safety Measures to Be Enforced: Quetta Commissioner

**Quetta:** In light of security concerns, Quetta Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the potential closure of Karkhsa Recreational Area within Hazarganji Chiltan National Park. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah Badini, SSP Operations Captain (R) Asif Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Agha Samiullah, Assistant Commissioner Political Muhammad Kaleem, and officials from the Forest Department.

During the meeting, officials deliberated on the park’s vast area, security challenges, public facilities—especially water supply—and possible restrictions to ensure visitor safety. It was noted that the park stretches all the way to Mastung, making complete security coverage difficult. Additionally, active WASA tube wells provide essential water supply, and a full closure could negatively impact these services.

Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar emphasized that Karkhsa National Park is one of the few recreational spots for Quetta’s residents, and complete closure would deprive the public of essential leisure opportunities. He assured that public safety would remain the administration’s top priority while allowing limited access for recreation and picnics under new security-focused rules.

The meeting concluded with several key decisions:

* Hunting will remain strictly prohibited, and entry for hunting purposes will not be allowed.
* The park’s security arrangements will be strengthened, and entry will be restricted to a single main route.
* Visitors will only be allowed up to the dam; areas beyond the dam will be closed, with clear signage and banners installed.
* The Forest Department was instructed to mark designated limits and implement security measures promptly.
* Police were directed to maintain active checkpoints, increase patrolling, and ensure the protection of visitors and property.

Commissioner Kakar appealed to the public to cooperate with park authorities and security agencies, follow the rules, and avoid venturing beyond designated limits to ensure both visitor safety and the preservation of park facilities. Authorities also stressed that additional measures may be introduced in the future depending on evolving security conditions.
