2025 Declared a Bloody Year in Balochistan: 442 Killed, Including 202 Security Personnel

Quetta – The year 2025 proved to be one of the deadliest in Balochistan, with attacks targeting civilians, police, and Frontier Corps personnel. According to official figures, a total of 442 people were killed, including 202 security officers, amid a surge in terrorism across the province.

The violence included suicide attacks, bombings, and targeted killings, claiming the lives of 280 civilians alongside security personnel. Notable incidents included the March 11 attack on the Jaffar Express in Bolan, where terrorists took passengers hostage, resulting in 26 deaths and over 35 injuries.

Other major attacks occurred on key highways connecting Quetta, Punjab, and Karachi. On February 18, militants on the Quetta-Punjab route killed seven passengers in Barkhan district after identifying them. On July 10, nine passengers were shot dead in Zhob’s Sera Dhaka area after being removed from a coach. On July 16, assailants fired at a coach carrying the Sabri Qawwal group near Nimrgh, Kalat, killing three, including a father and son, and injuring 13 others.

Despite the bloodshed, the Balochistan Home Department reported conducting 78,000 intelligence-based operations throughout the year, resulting in the elimination of 707 terrorists. Chief Minister Sardar Sarfraz Bugti expressed hope that the security situation would improve in the coming year, pledging continued efforts to stabilize the province.

The year’s events highlight both the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan and the extensive counterterrorism operations undertaken to curb violence.
