Former DG ISI Faiz Hameed Files Appeal Against Military Court Sentence

Islamabad – Former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, has filed an appeal against the sentence awarded to him by a military court.
According to a report by a foreign news agency, Faiz Hameed’s counsel has confirmed that an appeal has been lodged against the verdict of the Field General Court Martial (FGCM). His lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, stated without providing further details that the appeal against the sentence awarded by the military court has been submitted to the Registrar, Court of Appeals (AG Branch), Chief of Army Staff.
Under Section 133B of the Pakistan Army Act, an accused has 40 days to file an appeal against an FGCM verdict. The appeal is first reviewed by the Court of Appeals, which is headed by a major general or a senior officer appointed by the Army Chief. Following this review, the Chief of Army Staff has the authority to confirm, revise, or set aside the sentence.
On December 11, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed had been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. According to ISPR, he was tried on four charges, including involvement in political activities, violation of the Official Secrets Act detrimental to the security and interests of the state, misuse of authority and government resources, and unlawfully causing harm to individuals.
ISPR stated that after a prolonged legal process, the accused was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 14 years’ rigorous imprisonment on December 11, 2025. The military’s spokesperson emphasized that the Field General Court Martial complied with all legal requirements and that Faiz Hameed was granted all legal rights, including the right to a defense team of his choice. It was also noted that the convicted officer retains the right to appeal at the relevant forum.
ISPR further said that matters relating to the accused’s alleged collusion with political elements, political agitation, and destabilization were being dealt with separately. The court martial proceedings against Faiz Hameed were initiated on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act and continued for approximately 15 months before concluding with the conviction and sentence.
