Monis Alvi Faces Harassment Case: Will the CEO of K-Electric Resign After Verdict?

Karachi: Monis Alvi, the CEO of K-Electric, has responded to the decision of the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, calling it a painful yet legal part of the process. In his statement, Alvi expressed that while he respects the verdict, he disagrees with its details. He emphasized that throughout his professional life, he has adhered to the principles of integrity, transparency, and maintaining a safe and respectful environment, making this decision a personal and professional shock for him.
Alvi further mentioned that he is carefully reviewing the decision with his legal advisors and intends to exercise his right to appeal. He stated that anyone who feels they have been subjected to injustice has the right to speak out and be heard, and he is committed to bringing the truth to light within the framework of the law.
His statement appeared to be a cautious yet confident defense, where he not only defended his position but also clarified his personal stance.
It is important to note that the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, Justice (retd) Shah Nawaz Tariq, found Monis Alvi guilty in a sexual harassment case filed by K-Electric’s former Chief Marketing Officer, Meherin Zahra. As a result, the CEO was sentenced to dismissal from his post along with a fine of 2.5 million rupees.

Following the complaint lodged by Meherin Zahra, an investigation was conducted, which led to the decision to remove Alvi from his position. The Ombudsman also imposed a fine of 2.5 million rupees, to be paid within one month. According to the ruling, failure to pay the fine could result in the confiscation of his movable and immovable assets, and his national ID card and passport could be blocked.
The decision also stated that Monis Alvi had harassed the complainant and caused her mental anguish.
