Soaring Prices in Quetta: “Dubai Sugar” at Rs 230/kg, Meat and Vegetables Beyond Public Reach

Quetta (Daily Qudrat Quetta) – Residents of Quetta and other districts of Balochistan are facing a severe inflation crisis as the prices of essential commodities continue to soar.
“Dubai sugar” is being sold at Rs 200–230 per kilogram due to its scarcity in the markets. Alongside sugar, prices of other daily necessities have also surged sharply. Citizens reported that farm-fresh chicken is being sold at Rs 800 per kg, tomatoes at Rs 100, okra at Rs 200, potatoes at Rs 160, bitter gourd at Rs 250, ridge gourd at Rs 150, and milk at Rs 220 per liter.
Meat prices have also skyrocketed, with boneless beef at Rs 1,500, beef with bone at Rs 1,200, and mutton at Rs 2,200 per kg. Additionally, the price of a 100-kg wheat sack has increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.
Citizens have appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan to dissolve the ineffective price control committee and ensure daily monitoring of rates, as the district administration remains absent while the poor struggle to afford basic meals.
