Met Department Issues Severe Cold, Rain, and Snowfall Alert Across Pakistan

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for severe cold, rain, and snowfall across various regions of Pakistan.

Today, most parts of the country are expected to remain cold and dry. Northern areas will experience partly cloudy skies, while some parts of Gilgit-Baltistan may see light rain and snowfall.

In Islamabad and its surrounding areas, the weather is expected to be cold with partly cloudy skies. Most districts of Balochistan will experience cold weather, and Sindh will remain cold and dry. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts will have cold and partly cloudy conditions, while the upper districts are expected to experience severe cold. Light rain and snowfall are forecast for Kohistan, Battagram, Chitral, and nearby areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, western winds will enter the upper regions of the country tomorrow evening, causing rain and snowfall in various areas next week. The intensity of cold is expected to increase on December 30 and 31. Rain is likely to continue in different parts of the country from December 31 to January 2.

From December 29 to 31, Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas are expected to receive rain and snowfall. During this period, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, and Manshera may also experience rainfall. Abbottabad, Buner, and Battagram are forecast to see rain and snow as well.

Between December 30 and January 2, rain is expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Astor, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Quetta, Ziarat, Qalat, Zhob, and Mastung.

The department has warned of potential landslides in hilly areas due to rain and snowfall. Roads in upper regions may remain closed, and travel could be severely affected. There is also a risk of avalanches in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities and the public have been urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines during this severe weather.
