How to Consume Flaxseeds for Maximum Health Benefits, Experts Advise

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Flaxseeds, also known as “superfood” seeds, are highly beneficial for health, but experts warn that improper consumption can limit their nutritional value.

Research indicates that whole flaxseeds have a hard outer shell that often passes through the digestive system undigested, preventing the body from absorbing essential nutrients. To maximize benefits, flaxseeds should be ground before consumption.

Nutritionists note that flaxseeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), fiber, and powerful antioxidants. Regular consumption can improve heart health, reduce inflammation, enhance brain function, balance cholesterol, and support proper digestion. The high fiber content also promotes satiety, aiding in weight management.

**Correct Usage:**
Experts recommend grinding flaxseeds using a coffee grinder or food processor. Ground flaxseeds should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer, as they can spoil quickly. Soaking flaxseeds in water overnight creates a gel-like substance beneficial for stomach and intestinal health.

**Recommended Quantity:**
Daily consumption of 1–2 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds is considered safe. Taking a tablespoon on an empty stomach with lukewarm water in the morning can improve digestion, while consuming it before meals promotes a feeling of fullness.

**Easy Ways to Use Flaxseeds:**

* Add to smoothies.
* Mix into muffins, pancakes, or bread.
* Sprinkle flaxseed powder on yogurt, oatmeal, or salads.
* Use flaxseed oil in salad dressings (avoid cooking at high temperatures).

**Important Guidelines:**
Drink plenty of water when consuming flaxseeds due to their high fiber content. Start with small amounts and gradually increase. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, and individuals with hormone-related issues, should consult a doctor before increasing intake.

Experts emphasize that incorporating flaxseeds into a daily diet can significantly improve overall health.
