Transporters Announce Wheel-Jam Strike Across Punjab, Demand Withdrawal of Traffic Ordinance 2025

Lahore:Transporters across Punjab have announced a complete wheel-jam strike today, protesting against the newly introduced **Traffic Ordinance 2025**.
Leaders of the Pakistan Transport United Action Committee held a press conference in Lahore, demanding that the Punjab government immediately withdraw the ordinance. They said the new law imposes **heavy fines**, calling it “unfair and oppressive” to the transport community.
Transport representatives warned that until the ordinance is withdrawn, **public transport will remain suspended**. Goods transport, mini-Mazda trucks, loaders, and rickshaws will also join the strike. Intra-city, inter-district, and inter-provincial transport services will remain shut.
The first round of negotiations between transporters and the Punjab government ended without any breakthrough. According to the Transport Association, the next meeting is scheduled for **2 PM today**.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar responded to the strike call, stating that civilized nations support enforcement of law—not protests that disrupt public life. He emphasized that **driving without a license is equivalent to inviting accidents and death**, and added that the police will not succumb to any “blackmailing” when it comes to ensuring the safety of schoolchildren and commuters.
