Quetta Plunged into Darkness After Light Rain; Claims of QESCO and Safa Project Exposed as False: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party

Quetta: Leaders of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) have strongly criticized civic authorities, stating that a weak and dysfunctional system has turned rainfall—a blessing—into a source of hardship for the public. They said that following light rain in Quetta, the entire city was plunged into darkness due to poor arrangements and incompetence by the Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), leaving citizens without electricity for nearly 24 hours.
The party leaders said that the claims made by the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta and the Safa Project regarding improvements in the city’s sanitation system have been exposed as false, as residents continue to face severe difficulties. They alleged that corruption worth billions of rupees has not only destroyed municipal institutions but has also made daily life miserable for the people of Quetta.
Addressing public gatherings, corner meetings, organizational sessions, and inauguration ceremonies of election offices in connection with the local government elections, PkMAP leaders accused certain forces of conspiring to delay local body elections to prolong corruption and commissions and ultimately dismantle the local government system. They said the public is well aware of those parties and individuals who have consistently deprived Quetta of local government elections.
Senior party leaders, including Provincial Senior Vice President and District Quetta Secretary Syed Sharaf Agha, Provincial General Secretary Kabir Afghan, and others, urged the public to exercise their democratic right on December 28, 2025, and vote for PkMAP’s nominated candidates by stamping the party’s election symbol “Tree.”
They emphasized that local government institutions are the first and most important step toward resolving public issues, as elected councilors at the ward level are well aware of local problems and can effectively work for their resolution. However, they alleged that what they termed “Form-47-backed representatives,” who they claim lack genuine public mandate, are deliberately creating obstacles in holding local government elections to protect their alleged corruption.
The leaders demanded immediate steps by QESCO to restore and stabilize electricity supply in Quetta. They also called on the administrator of Metropolitan Corporation Quetta and the Safa Project management to take urgent measures to improve sanitation, clean drains, remove garbage heaps, unblock sewerage lines, and eliminate stagnant wastewater from roads to provide relief to the citizens.
